The footage of the giraffe chase includes shots from 'Vanishing Kings – Lions Of The Namib', a 2015 documentary by Lianne & Will Steenkamp, which follows this pride of desert lions in Namibia [1], and was filmed around Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp [2]

Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, Botswana

Location taken from media pack [1]; I believe this refers to the shots at the beginning of the sequence that show zebra beginning a long overland journey to reach water: "They are setting off on the longest over-land migration made by any mammal in Africa, marching towards the scent of distant rains." This description is consistent with the annual Chobe-Nxai Pan zebra migration, which Africa Geographic [2] describes as follows: "in early December [...] over 20,000 zebras begin their journey southwards – triggered by rain in the Nxai Pan area [...] These herds disperse throughout Nxai Pan National Park (part of the greater Makgadikgadi Pan system) and remain there for about three months – December to February – before making their return to the north." There are two shots, however, from 22:27 to 22:37, where we see close-ups of a zebra's hooves as it walks through sand and of it passing the camera by at eye-level. This zebra appears to be a mountain zebra (Equus zebra), specifically E. z. hartmannae if filmed in Namibia (the only other subspecies E. z. zebra is restricted to South Africa), distinguished by its visible dewlap and the pattern of striping on its body [3] (prominent black stripes all the way down to the animal's hooves as well as narrow stripes on the body, without the thinner brown stripes that the Burchell's zebra featured in all other shots exhibit). Later in the sequence, we see allegedly the same group of animals at a watering hole having completed their migration. These shots are re-used from the documentary 'Africa' - specifically, the Kalahari episode - which follows a family of ostriches in Namibia's Etosha Salt Pans as they reach the watering hole. Confusingly, the sequence immediately after this, which follows Namaqua sandgrouse, is said in the narration to be just "a hundred kilometres away", but the NamibRand Nature Reserve where those animals were filmed is much further away from both the Etosha National Park and Makgadikgadi Salt Pans.

Namib Desert, Namibia

In the Namib, a shovel-snouted lizard's solution to handling the sizzling 70° Celsius temperatures on the surface of the sand is to never leave all its feet on the ground for too long. Instead, while at a stop on the dune, it raises one front foot and one back foot off the sand for just a few moments, long enough to allow them to cool, before switching positions with the other feet.

Only two species of darkling beetle collect fog using their own bodies: Onymacris unguicularis and Onymacris bicolor [1]. The latter has a black head, legs and underside and a white elytra, so the species featured here can only be O. unguicularis.
